House on Marchbank
-
A two-storey, street-facing extension to an existing Victorian house. Replacing a small garage, the new addition creates an improved sequence of entry and provides living spaces that connect directly to the garden. The re-positioned dining-kitchen spills onto a small courtyard, defining an outdoor room where the old house meets the new.
A collaboration with Charles Rattray and Ross Aitchison.

Windows are positioned carefully to maximize natural light at different times of the day. The north facing wall of the kitchen has a high-level slot window, providing privacy from the street and catching the last rays of sunlight in late afternoon.
