The Garden as a Room

A protected garden, inviting the landscape into the building.

Treating the garden as a room invites the landscape right into the centre of the building, and protects a little piece of it. Big openings frame views out, but can be closed off to hunker down in winter.

The house is divided in two, with a simple volume on each side, connected by a covered walkway. The garden becomes part of the floor plan, with the proportion of a generous room. Windows look out over the landscape, and in towards the protected garden. Prospect and refuge.
